This article is part two of a two-part series about unanswered prayers. This is a continuation of the discussion of why some of our prayers are not answered by God.

Another reason why God does not answer our prayers is lack of faith. People doubt and worry that God will answer their prayers. They lose faith. The Bible tells us in James, chapter 2, verses 6-8 But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord."

Having wrong motives when praying and asking God for something is also a reason for unanswered prayers. According to James, chapter 4, verse 3, "You ask and do not receive, because you asked wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures." Selfishness, jealousy, self-importance, and the desire to manipulate people are just some of the wrong motives we have when praying to God. God will not answer prayers driven by these wrong motives. God sees through us. Let us examine our motives first before asking God for something.

Anxiety is also another reason for unanswered prayers. Anxiety is related to lack of faith in God.

Disobedience is another cause for unanswered prayers. Disobedience is a sin. Sins disrupt the flow of God's blessings and answers to prayer. According to Psalm chapter 66, verse 18, "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear".

Iniquity in your heart is the awareness of sins but rather than asking God for forgiveness, you refuse to deal with it. We are just people, we commit sins; the important thing is to stop and repent for them. Otherwise, we damage our relationship with God, and our prayers will be unanswered.

Sometimes, our prayers are not answered because it is against God's will. John 5:14 says "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us." God only answers prayers that are in accordance to His will. Through God's Word, His will is revealed. Anything promised by His Word is His will and we can pray with confidence that He will hear our prayers based on His Word.

Sometimes, we do not know if what we are praying for is in accordance to God's will. Because of this, we should ask God to grant our prayers if they are in accordance to His will. In case our prayers are unanswered, we should accept it as God's will and that he has something better in stored for us.

Lack of action on our part is also a reason for unanswered prayers. When we ask God for something, we should also do something to make it happen and not just sit around and wait for God to give it to use. We are also responsible for the outcome of our prayer. God helps those who help themselves.

The last reason for unanswered prayers is because we haven't really asked and prayed for it. James chapter 4, verse 2 says, "You do not have because you do not ask." We should know what we want and we should ask God for it. In the first place, how would God give us what we want if we do not ask?

These are several reasons why some of our prayers are answered. Use these as a guide in praying to God for the things you want. Always remember to be patient and to accept whatever God gives you because it is His will and it is the best for you. Most importantly, be thankful for all the blessings that God gives you even though it is not what you are asking for.
